San Francisco Pride Parade June 27-28 2009

San Francisco, California

One of the most famous in the world, the San Francisco Pride Parade is held annually late June and usually along Market Street, all the way from Beale to 8th Street, in beautiful downtown San Francisco. You can watch the parade along Market Street, and there is even seating available on the UN Plaza, between 7th & 8th streets. So, what's to be seen at this parade, anyway? The Pride Parade consists of many contingents that come from various organizations and groups; two of the most known being: "Dykes on Bikes" and "PFLAG" (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). The parade itself starts at 10:30 a.m. and lasts throughout the day.

A two-day festival takes place Saturday and Sunday, and houses a collection of booths, vendors, stages for dancing and singing and more. The full title of the weekend event is called the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Pride Celebration Parade. A bit of a mouthful, but it helps demonstrate how serious an event it actually is. The event brings awareness and commemorates the gay and lesbian communities not only in the bay area, but all over the world as well.

When: 27-28 June 2009 Where: Market Street Hours: All day and night
