Calcio storico Fiorentino
Red is the colour this week in Florence with team Rossi winning the final of the calcio storico competition which took place yesterday in Piazza Santa Croce as part of the San Giovanni festivities. The holiday dedicated to Florence’s patron, St John, kicked off with a parade and mass at the Duomo, at which the city’s new mayor was also present. The historical football game followed and the day culminated in spectacular style with a 30 min firework display.Other events this week include Pitti Bimbi, the world preview of children’s clothes collections for Spring/Summer 2010, which starts today after last week’s successful Pitti Uomo, previewing the men’s collections and Nottarno, on Saturday, when the Oltrarno neighbourhood of the city will stay up all night entertaing the masses with live music, markets, wine tasting and more.
Negative press this week goes to a handful of famous bars and clubs in the historic centre of the city that were closed yesterday by the police, after they were found to be involved in a drugs ring aimed at selling cocaine to their young clients.
