The capital of Argentina is hosting once again one of the most important events in Latin America that focuses on independent filmmakers, writers, actors and fans. The Buenos Aires International Independent Film Festival (BAFICI) will be held on 7th – 18th of April, 2010. First organized by the Secretary of Culture of the Buenos Aires City Government in 1999, this international event continues to grow its reach and significance. This festival promotes an educational part of cinema – young people are encouraged to participate and to bring different perspectives and disciplines to the audiovisual art.Sometimes this festival is called “the Oscars of South America”. The festival has an international group and national group of judges. Every year the naminees are selected. Currently some of the award categories are Best Film, Best Script, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Special Mentions, and others. In addition, the public can express its opinion asnd has the right to vote. The film that receives the most sympathies and, therefore, gets the most votes receives the People’s Choice Award.
In addition, with a goal of stimulating and supporting new independent production, BAFICI created the Buenos Aires Lab. It is an educational cinematographical event. The aim of the programme is to stimulate the development and production of independent cinema in all the countries of Latin America. The Buenos Aires Lab programme will include the participation of professionals of the international industry who are willimg to learn about cinematography of Latin America.
The international acknowledgement of the Argentinean cinema is confirmed by many ciname professionals and displayed regularly in the mass media and presented in the several awards granted in the last years. This event is a must for those serious about the future of Latin Cinama or those willing to understand, enjoy and appreciate international films. Great and valuable time is guaranteed.
