Have you ever heard about people throwing grapes at each other? No, its not an aggressive event, it’s all for fun, The Grape Throwing Festival in Mallorca, which takes a place at the last weekend on September annually.In the Mallorca island in the town called Binnissalem. Spanish people running and getting ready the rocket to go off…thousand of people running for a piper, who will bring you to the fields, once there pelt every single person near you with the grapes.
If we look back in history, to find out how the Spanish get there, to have this weird, crazy idea, we getting lost, because its history is somewhat lost through the ages. However, it seems that it was created as a way off the harvest season, grapes that were not so good for wine, to not throw them away, they invented this fun full event. Festa Dels Trepitjadors – Sa Vermada Binissalem period started back in the 1930’s , when the farmers were celebrating the end of the harvest by throwing the rest of the crop at each other.
The Grape Throwing Festival Mallorca last two weeks, so lots to time to fully enjoy it, there will be grape-throwing fight with 90 tonnes of grapes, a grape-treading competition, making it very popular event.
This year it starts on the 15th of September until 26th, giving visitors a great opportunity to fully enjoy grapes, in a fight and tasting a great wine. Usually it was celebrated only for people who live in Binissalem town, but for the first time it will be open for everyone to take a part. It is the only Grape fight in the world, which is happening only in the little 7,000 inhabitant village.
