Tyrrhenian sea
Capri is an island of the Tyrrhenian sea and the name of the main town of the same island. It was known in the Greek mythology as the isle of the sirens, that may due to the fact that it was a resort of the Roman emperors during the Roman Republic. As a proof of this ancient time, you can see there the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas. Part of the region of Campania, it is also a province of Napoli.The island is worldly famous and a lot of tourists go there in the summer period. During the rest of the year the island really calm and relaxing. To reach the island, you can use the daily ferries from Napoli, from Amalfi, from Positano and from Sorrento. Boats are operated by the Caremar and SNAV companies. From Marina Grande, a funicular goes up to Capri Town, and boats leave for the Blue Grotto.
The Blue Grotto -in itlian,Grotta Azzurra- is a beautiful cave used as a bath resort since the Roman times.It offers a view to the beautiful sight of the light from the entrance getting through the water lit turquoise from below by the sun. You’ll be amazed by the turquoise brighting in the water and against the rocks.
Cruises are put in place circling Capri and stoping at the Blue Grotto letting passengers to board a row boat and enter the cave. This attraction is one of those that you adore it or hate, mostly due to the fact that in very touristic period, the queue to do the tour boats can last one or two hours to stay only a few minutes in it. Some will wonder why all that agitation about this cave but the other will answer that it is a fantastic thing to see.
Where to go outside Capri: Napoli , Amalfi, Sorrento, Pompeii, Procida, Positano, Praia a Mare and of course Vesuvius.
