Cultural leader, you can get it all
One of the most multicultural cities in the world, Toronto, has half of its population born somewhere else. Located on the north-western shore of Lake Ontario, facing the New York State, the city embrace a cultural wave coming from the US and everywhere else, and balance it harmoniously with its own. So, you can expect to find food from all over the world, cause different ethnic neighbourhoods throughout the city focus on specific cuisines, such as Italian food in Little Italy and Indian food in Little India, other than these you can find Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Japanese, Hungarian and Caribbean food. But there are other things to do other than eating: Toronto is host of many attractions, some of them notable worldwide. The Canadian National Tower is one of the tallest structures in the world, with 553 meters, used as a transmission tower and observation deck. The City Hall, a impressive modernist building, is home for the municipal government and the square right in front of it, Nathan Philips Square frequently houses concerts, markets, art displays and other events. The Yonge-Dundas Square, the newest and flashiest in the city, is located across the street from Toronto Eaton Centre, a huge popular shopping mall that receive around one million visitors every week. The Toronto Islands, a chain of island in the western part of the lake Ontario, host a children’s amusement park, several swimming beaches and even a Nude beach, called Hanlan’s Point Beach.
The capital of Ontario is also a place for religious people or architecture lovers: St. Michael’s Cathedral, one of the oldest churches in Toronto, is special because of its ability to take harsh lines on the exterior and warm the viewer as they enter the cathedral. The Anglican cathedral church of St. James, once the biggest structure in the city, is a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture, just like Casa Loma, “hill house” in Spanish, originally a residence that is nowadays a museum and landmark. This house is one of the most popular attractions and has been also location for movies, such as X-Men and Harry Potter.
What surely you can’t miss when in Toronto is a one day trip to Niagara falls, a ride on the famous Maid of the Mist and the breathtaking view of the place. Toronto is worth to write on your places to go list!
