Professional Surfing Competition
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) was created in 1976 as the main governing body for professional surfing. Before its creation, the surfing industry had not existed. There were only some groups of teenagers competing and showing off their respective skills against one another. Therefore, the establishment of ASP was considered to be the first step towards development of the professional surfing. Year after year the ASP has turned into a strong organization. Presently it is divided into seven different regions: Africa, Japan, Australasia, Europe, Hawaii, North America, and South America.Every year the ASP organizes the ASP World Championship Tour. The best surfers of the year are awarded after this competition (there are Men’s and Women’s divisions). Every season, World Tour surfers compete with each other for prize money. Different tours have different locations. The competitions are held in the best sites of Australia, Brazil, South Africa, USA, Spain, Portugal and France. These are the places where the adrenaline rush begins. The tours are taking place all year round. One tour, depending on the number of participants, requires 8 – 12 days of competition.
The ASP World Tour 2009 is coming to the end. The last competition is scheduled to be in a surfers’ paradise: Oahu – Hawaii between the 8th and 20th of December, 2009. Who will be the next winner? If the waves cooperate? The answers are coming soon!
Truly professional, incredibly efficient in business processes, practices and event organization ASP is making its way to success.
