celebration of the highest quality horticulture
From 24th of May until 28th of May you can enjoy the amazing Chelsea Flower show. It’s a perfect place for plant breeders to unveil new plants and the Great Pavilion often provides the first glimpses of the newest horticultural gems. Also known as the Great Spring Show, it is held every year in May. It’s one of the most famous gardening shows in the world, it’s running for five days with over 157,000 visitors. British Royal Family attend a preview of the show, as part of the royal patronage of the RHS it will be also covered on television by the BBC.
The show has become an important place for observing trends, the area of land devoted to show gardens has increased steadily between 1970 and 2000. New plant varieties are often launched at the show and the popularity of older ones are often revived. The Chelsea Flower Show can accommodate 157,000 visitors on each of the five days it is open.
For the first time the Grat Spring Show was held in Kensington back in 1862 as a small expo which was focused on selling plants raised by members to raise money for the RHS charites. While the crowds became too large for the smaller site in 1913 it was moved to Royal Hospital in Chelsea.
All around the place you can see the thumbs with a stunning array of flowers and plants, which gardening professionals and talented amateur gardeners are proud to show off. For those who are not able to go in person, can still watch live with web cams , photos and video clips, which are available at the RHS site.
Designers like Jinny Blom, Chris Beardshaw, Andy Sturgeon, Tom Stuart-Smith, Stephen Woodhams and Cleve West are just one of the reasons that RHS Chelsea Flower Show is considered to be the greatest and most renowned show of its kind in the world.
It takes 18 months of planning to organize all of the exhibitions. In the final 3 1/2 weeks, 800 people work feverishly to build the complex of tents, water pipes and garden settings that seem so natural as you wander through the show.
Visitors also have the opportunity to create their own garden designs, at the last day of the show, there is a self-off of display plants that can be taken home to add a touch of royal garden flavor to your yard.
