The Greatest Competition in the Eternal CityRome is a city full of history, full of memories, full of energy, a city where empires were built and empires fell, where loves started and ended, where world history blends with regular people’s personal stories. Rome will live forever and there will always be people in Rome, that’s why it is called “The Eternal City.
One of the best characteristics of Rome is the fact that there are vestiges of every part of its history scattered all over the city. The best way to see this monuments is walking around them and contemplating their magnifiscence and grandeur.
Not everyone has the memorable opportunity to see all the major monuments that Rome posseses, but there is one day every year when a few fortunate ones -in fact a few thousands fortunate ones- get to see Rome’s most important emblems in the same day, the one day where competition mixes with the excitement of being in one of, if not the greatest city in the world.
“La Maratona di Roma,” the most outstanding sporting event in the city covers an unforgettable route that everyone competing will remember for the rest of their lives.
Running the marathon in Rome has a special meaning because of all the splendour the participants go through from the very start line at Piazza Venezia to the culmination just off the imposing Colosseum.
Those running the Rome’s Marathon pay a visit to the most famous spots in the Eternal City, from the most important piazzas, like Piazza Navona, Piazza di Spagna, amongst others; to the most important centers of worship – Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Synagogue, the Mosque, just to mention some.
On March 26th, 2006 The Eternal City will grant us the exceptional opportunity to observe in awe the most enduring athletes performing in the most important sporting competition. The Marathon.
