Do you know your rights when your flight is delayed,overbooked or cancelled??
Here are couple of common rules on compensation and assistance to passengers in
the event of overbooked flights, denied
boarding and of cancellation or long delay of flights.
In the case your flight has been overbooked and you are not in a
hurry then the airlines will pay you compasation and a hotel,
and will book you on for the next available flight.
-From my own experience when working for Czech Airlines in Prague,
I still remember the happy look on the face of one backpacker when
I asked him if he would mind terribly staying in Prague one more night
with the compasation of $400 – and yes obviously New York could’ve waited.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled or denied boarding against their will should be
able either to cancel their flights, with reimbursement of
their tickets, or to continue them under satisfactory
conditions, and should be adequately cared for while
awaiting a later flight.
Which means for example – you should always be able to
use a phone or to obtain a free phone call card.
