Easter is the most important among the religious feasts of the Greek Orthodox.
In Athens in all churches the Mass on Saturday evening starts at about 22.00 and finishes in the early morning hours. Family and friends meet afterwards at home to enjoy a festive dinner that breaks the 40-day fast. On Easter day celebration goes on with big meals at dinner time where the traditional roast lamb is served. Easter cookies and “ tsoureki”, the typical sweet bread, follow the big meal and they are irresistible!

Most shops are closed from Good Friday to Tuesday after Easter. However, cafeterias, restaurants and night clubs remain open and welcome their visitors the best way they can.

Do not worry about the weather! Dust your summer clothes down, take something warm for the evening and enjoy the starry sky over the Parthenon!
