Paris Jazz Festival

June and July 2008
Already a major fixture on the international jazz scene, the third annual Paris Jazz Festival kicked off on the 7th of June with Ji Mob and Zuco 103 as joint opening acts. Promising a great schedule throughout the summer-acts to come include David Murray, The New Master Sounds and Wallace Roney-the festival takes place every weekend until Sunday July 27th in the idyllic setting of the Parc Floral.

The idea is simple, and perfect for those hot Paris days. Simply pay €5 ﴾€2.50 reduced rate for ages 7-25 years﴿ entrance to the park, which is open from 9.30am-8.00pm, and enjoy everything on offer there for the day. Concerts generally start at 3pm, and last between one and a half-two hours. Also on offer in the park are various exhibitions and animations based on the same themes as in previous years-discovery, game, participation and sharing. All related to jazz, they include ‘Les Mains du Jazz’ ﴾or, ‘The Hands of Jazz’,﴿ an exhibition by photographer Sophie Leroux. For those of you in the mood for dancing, get those shoes on for the swing dance lessons! Perfect for getting ready for the concerts in the afternoon.
Kids activities on offer include a specially constructed musical playground as well as the chance to take part in a musical parade, focusing on discovering jazz rhythms and sounds.

A great way to spend a day, or indeed a weekend, in Paris, for both the musical and not-so-musical among you. Get down to the park early, bring a picnic, and enjoy the jazz scene in Paris at its most prolific and in its most beautiful setting.
