Christmas in Chicago

Hostels in Chicago
The Christmas spirit comes alive well and truely every year in ‘The Windy City’ of Chicago. If you’re going to be in town for the festive season here are a few annual Christmas activities you should make time for.

The Great Tree is placed at Macy’s Department Store every year. Standing at 45 feet tall and covered in red bows, glittering tinsel and thousands of sparkling lights, the sight will blow you away. Might as well get some Christmas shopping done while you’re there too!

Open daily from the end of November until mid March, the Millennium Park Ice-Skating rink has over 100,000 people come to visit and enjoy a night out during their holidays. Admission to the rink is free and skates will only cost $10 to rent.

The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival has been held every year for over 40 years and is a family favourite throughout the city. All the trees that line the length of Michigan Avenue are decked out in Christmas lights and families gather in the streets to slowly walk along the ave. To end the opening night of The Magnificent Mile, there is a huge fireworks display which explodes over the Chicago River. For residents, this marks the kick-off of the festive holiday season.
