Amsterdam, the capital and largest city of the Netherlands is famous of its canals, its bikes, its museums, its night life, and the lot variety of people. Its a beautiful city with more than 750.000 residents on the outfall of the river Amstel. In Amsterdam are living 175 various nationalities, which makes the city the biggest multicultural city in the world.The night life in Amsterdam is very divers! You can find a lot of restaurants, cinemas, pubs, cafés, discotheques, clubs and the controversial coffee shops. The two main night life areas are the Leidseplein and the Rembrandtplein. The Reguliersdwarsstraat is well know by gays and lesbians.
Also well known in Amsterdam is its redlightdistrict ‘De Wallen’, also know as the ‘Rosse buurt’. It is a network of alleys where you can find hundreds of female prostitutes who offer the services from behind a red window. In this area there are also a lot of sex shops, sex theatres, sex museums and coffee shop. In the coffee shop you can get various cannabis products.
Amsterdam has a lot of museums. The most are located at the Museumplein (Museum Square). This square is the largest of Amsterdam and you can find there the Rijksmuseum, the Van Goghmuseum en the Stedelijk museum. All these museums contains a large and important collection of classical Dutch art (Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hal, Piet Mondriaan, Karel Appel, Vincent van Gogh). Also famous in Amsterdam is the Anne Frank House. Here you can see and experience how Anne Frank, a Jewish wartime diarist, has lived during WOII.
Also for shopping Amsterdam is a perfect place. In the Kalverstraat, with 900.000 passengers a week the most crowded street of the Netherlands, are a lot of divers shops. The neighbourhood ‘Oud-Zuid’ you can find the famous P.C. Hooftstraat. Its a very expensive street with shops of Louis Vuittin, Gucci, Chanel e Cartier.
If you go to Amsterdam don’t forget to rent a bike, make a cruise through the canals, buy a painting of Van Gogh and smoke a joint!

If you think you have done everything in Amsterdam, there are a lot of nice and interesting places to go. One of the most popular attraction of the Netherlands is the Zaanse Schans. It is a neighbourhood of Zaandam (near Amsterdam) with a collection of historic houses and windmills.
The second city of the Netherlands is Rotterdam. Rotterdam has the biggest port of Europe and its also famous because of its culture (Rotterdam was the Europan Cultural Capital in 2001) and its architecture. It has its own orchestra which the world famous musical director Valery Gergiev.
If you are done with the cities, take a trip to the Veluwe. The Veluwe is for a part a national parc which consist many different landscapes like woodland, heath, small lakes and Europe’s largest sand drift. Many different plants and animals live there. You can go for a walk or discover the nature with a rent bike. You can also visit the famous Kroller-Muller art museum.
Also a good holiday destination are the Waddeneilanden (West Frisian Islands), which consist of several islands with beautiful beaches. You can island hopping with the regular ferries. On the islands cycling is the most easy way to move.
In the summer the beach on the west coast is a beautiful place to enjoy your day. From Amsterdam it is very easy to go to Zandvoort by train. But you can also go to Scheveningen, the most famous seaside resort in the Netherlands. In the evening you can visit Den Haag (The Hague), the government capital of the Netherlands. It has good restaurants and also a good night life.
You can go everywhere in the Netherlands because it is not very big and the public transport works very well. You can reach everything within 1½ hour. Even though, if you don’t have the time to see everything, you must visit Madurodam (in The Hague). Madurodam is a miniature city with a 1:25 scale.
