Festa SantAgata 5 feb 2010

Catania Hostel Sicily Italy
Festival of Saint Agatha is the patron saint of Catania. She is famous for being prosecuted for her beliefs regarding celibacy and is seen in many paintings and images being tortured and punished.
She is celebrated and remembered in one of the worlds’ largest and most popular festivals, in fact only the festivals in Seville and the festival Corpus Domini in Guzco, Peru can out do it in popularity.

For three days, from 3rd to 5th February, people swarm the streets of Catania to celebrate in many different areas of the city with many different rituals taking place.

The first day of the festival a procession including many important figures in the commune and local government pass through the city, at night a huge fireworks display sparks the start of the festivities.

The days that follow many more processions take place including ones that go through Via Plebiscito, where our hostel is located. At this time bars and restaurants are full of people enjoying and taking in the atmosphere.

On the 4th and 5th there will be many festivals and processions going through Via Plebiscito, one of the main roads in Catania. Ostello del Plebiscito is located on this street and is a great reference point to see and take part in the parties and festivites. Enjoy it from our picturesque courtyard or directly on the street, you are guaranteed fun wherever you are.
