Where is the geographical center of Europe? This Baltic State recently marked the 20th anniversary of independence restoration, which happened on the 11th of March, 1990. Lithuania was originally founded the early 13th century when two military and religious forces: the Teutonic Knights and the Livonian Brothers of the Sword, began to invade the pagan area. Lithuanians had to form a unified state in order to protect the land and local religious beliefs. Lithuania lost its independence for the first time in the late 18th century. After declaring its independence in the aftermath of World War I, the country was occupied in 1940 first by the Soviet Union then Nazi Germany. Lithuania became a full member of NATO and the European Union in spring 2004.
