World’s Tourism day

27th of September starts
This date was chosen to coincide with an important milestone in world tourism: the anniversary of the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes on 27 September 1970

2010 World Tourism Day this year theme will raise awareness among people about tourism development, biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction. This year’s campaign, UNWTO draws everyone’s attention to the most pressing global challenges of our time the sustainable use of environmental resources and reduction of extreme poverty.

This year along with the rest of the world, Rome will celebrate World Tourism Day, an initiative started by the United Nations to ‘“foster awareness of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural political and economic value.”2010 year’s theme will focus upon ‘Tourism and diversity’ and will see a range of museums in Rome they will be all free open to the public.

In observance of United Nations world tourism day on Sat 27 September, the Vatican museums and Sistine Chapel are open free of charge from 08.30 to 18.30 with final entrances at 16.00.
