The Moonlight Margarita Run makes it very simply for those ones who are attending, because after 5km run, they are drinking margaritas. The Trail at Lady bird Lake project raises funds for the Trail Foundation,at the beginning at Austin’s Johnson Creek Trailhead. After this 5km long run in the heat, there is following a party with margaritas and the Mexican food on the grounds of the American Legion Hall near Lady Bird Lake.This year, it will help fund the upcoming $475,000 renovation of the very trailhead where the race starts, the busiest access point on the 10-mile crushed granite pathway. Work should start this fall and take about six months, says Susan Rankin, executive director of The Trail Foundation. The trail will remain open throughout construction.
This Thursday it will be 7th annual Moonlight Margarita Run, it will start at 8 p.m.
Don’t forget, it’s not just a run, there’s plenty of entertainment and costume contest as well!
After a shotgun start at sunset, runners, walkers, and friends of Austin’s Town Lake Trail will run along Stephen F. Austin Drive by Austin High School. The route proceeds east along Cesar Chavez to San Antonio and loops back to finish in front of the American Legion Hall on Veterans Drive.
At the race finish, a festive, moonlight party with Tex-Mex food, mariachi music and margaritas will take place on the grounds of the American Legion Hall for Town Lake Trail Foundation members and racers. The 5K course travels along the streets bordering Lady Bird Lake, it will start at the trailhead underneath the MoPac bridge.
The race will finishin front of the American Legion Hall on Veterans Drive. The Trail Foundation and underwriting sponsor Maudie’s Tex-Mex immediately following the race, will host their award-winning, post-race party underneath the live oaks of the American Legion Hall grounds.
