Incredible variety of art
On Saturday, June 18th, Venice is holding their first ever “White Night” adding to the list of Italian cities that partake in such an event. Starting at 5pm, a vast majority of galleries, palaces, churches, basilicas and museums will be open till midnight or later and will be free!There will also be a range of event and activities such as concerts and shows throughout the city. The Peggy Guggenheim Museum located in a grand villa in Dorsoduro will also be offering free guided tours in English and Italian and workshops for children.
Also going on in Venice at this time is the contemporary art expo the Biennale. Hosted in Venice since 1895 it is one of the biggest and most prestigious contemporary arts expositions in the world. The expo has grown much in popularity and now includes dance music and theatre.
Venice has an incredible variety of art in its museums, ranging from Renaissance paintings hung below elaborately carved ceilings to masterpieces of modern art. The Art Night (Notte Bianca 2011) has been organized by the University of Ca’Foscari and the Municipality.
There will also be a fashion show, which will be held at the Palazzo Ca ‘Foscari of Venice and the laboratories will be organized at the Gallerie dell’Accademia.
