The British Open golf tournament is one of the four golf majors , and the oldest, dating back to the 1860s, when the first Open Championship was played over three rounds of Prestwick’s 12-hole course.

The event was inspared by the Earl of Eglinton and Colonel James Fairlie, the members of Prestwick contributed funds for an extravagant belt of red leather adorned with silver buckle and decorations. This year on July the Open Championship returns to the Royal St George’s Golf Club, it will be the 140th championship.

The world’s best golfers with gather to do battle for the famous Claret Jug at “Sandwich” where Louis Oosthuizen will be looking to defend the trophy he famously won at St Andrews in 2010. South African won his first major in dominating fashion held the lead from the seventh hole of the second round right through to the end, Oosthuizen who won by seven strokes on The Old Course in St.Andrews.

The event will take place from 14th -17th of July, the Championship allows the players to engage in multiple forms of golf, which includes stroke okay and best ball. There will be competition between real professional golfers.

The championship attracts more than 100,000 spectators and millions watching tv, the world’s top golfers come to Kent’s Royal St George’s Golf Club for the oldest and most famous golf tournament in the world, the Open Championship.

The Championship now moves around Britain’s top clubs from year to year, and remains the tournament that every golfer wants to win.
