Impressive structures made for the games
London has been preparing for the games for a long time now and now that they are finally very near you can see what a huge effort has been made in the preparation of the Olympic Park.

One of the main structures built is the Olympic stadium which will hold all the athletics events. It will be able to seat 80,000 during the games:25,00 permanent seats in its permanent lower tier, and a temporary lightweight steel and concrete upper tier holding a further 55,000 spectators that will be removed after the games.

Although The construction was finished on the 29 march 2011, the building has not been officially opened yet, making the opening ceremony for the Olympics the first event to be held there. About 537 million pounds were needed to construct of this stadium because of this huge effort and commitment it is the third largest arena in Britain.

The seating capacity during the games, through its two temporary wings, will be 17,500 people but once the games are finished the facility will only feature 2,500 seats. Held in this venue will be the; diving, Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Paralympic Swimming, and modern Pentathlon. The mens and womens Water Polo competitions will be held next to the Aquatic centre in a temporary structure containing two pools: a warm up one and a competition pool.

The cost of building the Aquatic Centre will be no less than 303 million pounds.


The new basket ball arena will be the largest temporary structure made for the games. The versatility is the main feature of this venue, since it will be hosting the basketball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and the handball.

The structure will be very adaptable to deal with the short amount of time there will between the different tournaments, with only 22 hours to transform the location from a basketball arena into a handball arena. Less than 12hours will be available for converting the field into a wheelchair rugby arena. the venue will be able to house 10,000 spectators.

Two thirds of the materials used in the construction are recyclable or reusable, because of this the constructors hope that they will be able to relocate the venue elsewhere in Britain. The cost will be about 42 million.

With lots of new venues being built for the games both permanent and temporary, the London Olympic Park will be an impressive sight for any spectators and competitors that are fortunate enough to attend the games.
