Athens, considered as a unique city, with more than 3000 years old history, chaotic and beautiful. A rush and traffic jams is a normal thing in there, and some people prefer to not see the beauty escaping the smog and traffic, but that’s city’s charm. It’s a city with lots of things to see and to do, you can get anywhere in Greece by air, train, boat or bus.The reason why its too busy, is that almost half of Greeks living in Athens, almost 5million from all population, making it chaotic and some places in the city are to be avoided during the night. But you cant deny the history that belongs to Athens, is of the oldest cities in the world, and walking through its ancient Agora or on the Acropolis.
First inhabitants created their first settlement on the rock of Acropolis 3000 years ago. During the golden age of Pericles 495 – 429 BC, the rock of Acropolis found its glory with construction of most of its Monuments like the Parthenon, designed by the famous architects Iktinos and Kallikrates and the Sculptor Phidias.
That was a long road until they made what was planned. During those golden years of glory and decline, Athens was strong enough to carry the title to be Greece capital, back in 1834, for its location and historical importance.
The Athens situation nowadays are way better that it was before Olympic games were held in the capital. It has grew into an important financial European capital that hosted the last Olympic games with a great success. Many things have been improved. Since then, city’s infrastructure has been renovated, and they have made happened huge projects, like a new airport, new metro lines, a new tram line, a new railway the Proastiakos rail, huge shopping centers, stadiums and sport centres and the port of Piraeus, which is now one of the most important ones in the Mediterranean.
The capital of Greece has always been a birthplace for civilization, it is the city where democracy was born and most of the wise men of ancient times. You will feel like this, when you walk around the famous historic triangle,Plaka, Thission, Psyri, the old neighborhoods of different eras, seems like you are stuck in time, few thousand years ago. Its a home for Acropolis, nominated to be one of the 7 wonders of modern world. It’s a experience you will never forget, and probably will never feel like that nowhere else in the whole planet.
