Not so long ago, in 1982, Shenzhen was a backwater with 350,000 people, tiny by urban China’s standards. Today sub-provincial Shenzhen tops 11 million people. On the doorstep of Hong Kong, the modern high-altitude skyline of Shenzhen has a multiplicity of eclectic attractions from zoos and botanical gardens to beach resorts and folk museums.

The Minsk World is worth the trip to Dapeng Bay. The theme park hosts the Soviet aircraft carrier Minsk and a parade of other military paraphenalia.

Splendid China unfurls a Folk Culture Village that sports a remarkable display of architecture, objects and performances from China’s 56 ethnic groups. The theme park also includes a Miniature Park with scale models of world wonders.

Dameisha Promenade beachfront and is a foremost recreation spot in the city. With public squares and myriad food stalls, a first-rate place to stroll and chill in Shenzhen.
