Fina World Championships Rome 2009

The Fina World Championships are the world championships for all aquatic sports including swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming, diving and water polo. The championships, conducted by FINA, have been held since 1973 and every two years since then. This year, the 2009 World Aquatics Championships will be held in Rome, Italy from 17 July to 2 August at the Foro Italico Complex, located at the beautiful Ostia Lido, the delightful seaside resort just outside of Rome, providing hospitality to 170 nations, 2.500 athletes, 1.500 technicians and more than 2 weeks of games.

FINA invites to Rome the very best athletes in each of the five aquatic disciplines from it’s 193 National Member Federations. The technical perfection of divers, the performance of swimmers, the competetion between water polo teams, the effort of long distance athletes, as well as the grace of movement of synchronised swimmers are all extremely important aspects of the event.

The Open Water competition will be held in Ostia, Rome – with the following events:

Women’s/Men’s 5km – Sun 19th July
Women’s 10km – Tue 21st July
Men’s 10km – Wed 22nd July
