If we talk about the capital, San Salvador means Holy Savior, also called the Valley of the Hammocks, because of being surrounded by volcanoes, it should be holy…there are many beautiful cathedrals, Presidential Mansion and the National Theatre and Palace of El Salvador. You have to know San Salvador first to fall in love with it after, it’s traffic smog and a lush volcanic skyline, and a very friendly market chaos, these are the little things that makes it so special. The locals work very hard and they are very open hearted, from the taxi driver you would hear about his son’s studies and his few years experience aboard…than someone else telling you about his obsession of Telenovelas and poetry, you will hear the local gossip in parks, supermarkets and elsewhere.

The food is another great thing about this tiny country, the traditional dishes are mostly made of corn or maize, the most popular is the pupusa, which is a hand-made corn or rice flour tortilla stuffed with cheese, chicharron , refried beans…delicious. Exquizite sandwiches with fresh cucumber, lettuce, turkey, tomato and mustard, sounds simple, but you will soon get used to their special cooking, making simple ingredients taste like heaven. Seafood is common and tasty, the breakfast seems to be the main meal of the day, to have energy for working hard, it includes full breakfast, beans, eggs scrambled and vegetables.

And of course it’s a country that provide coffee worldwide, in a hot summer day, locals and tourists would cool themselves down with frozen Minutas, flavored with natural syrups, coconuts are available everywhere in this country.
