Elephant Polo Tournament

Mogul Indian Kings
There are many different kind of competitions and games with the animals like Horse polo or some others, but some are a bit particular, like King’s cup Elephant Polo Tournament, held in Hua Hin in Thailand, at the Anatara Rsort. There is a parade, you can go there with your kids, who will be able to feed the elephants , while you can watch as players pound the 100-metre pitch swinging three-metre mallets.

If we go back in the history of this particular event, it was first played by Mogul Indian Kings, but was reinvented in 1982 by an Englishman, Jim Edwards and a Scotsman James Mann-Clark in Switzerland. Since that time, tournaments have been played in Nepal and Sri Lanka, as well as Thailand. The rules are simple, two teams of three elephants in each play two chukkas , ten minutes each, all the players use specially elongated polo sticks and regular polo balls. It might be a lot slower but not less interesting as horse polo.

Go to Thailand and enjoy a breathtaking show, that will give you a lifetime experience, performances by an Elephant Orchestra and Elephant Painting take place each day at the polo grounds. There is a Thai Elephant Conservation Centre in Lampang, Northern Thailand, in where they provide welfare for more than 4000 wild and domesticated elephants.
