Glimpse of life of old Edo
Tokyo, originally called Edo, has lost a lot of important monuments, buildings and valuable places, because of floods, fires and earthquakes, but it has never lost its importance in the world, standing next to and being equal in sophistication to New York and London, Tokyo has always been a step ahead. The metropolis is a fascinating contrast of the old and new Tokyo, one of the world’s most modern cities, with a culture that has a worldwide influence. You will immediately notice the strong traditions and believes, that Tokyo carries, with huge variety of dining choices ranges from traditional Japanese food to being very open for authentic cuisines from many other lands.Once you step in this country, you will start to learn a totally diverse culture, there is nothing similar, entertainments will be traditional attractions, such as sumo, bunraku, kabuki or something more international, like music and dance shows. Wear kimono, and you will already feel like stranger to yourself, drink tea, as Japanese do, and you will be step forward to get know their culture and traditions. Try to respect and not to interrupt, not bother other ones, like they are raised to do, “Ojama shimasu” literally means, “I’m going to get in your way” or ” I will disturb you” , and you will feel like a better person already, that’s what this country does to you.
Every month Tokyo is proud to represent an old annual and new events, many of them, during end November there is one important, Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museums. It’s an outdoor museum of buildings in Tokyo, that dates back in 17th to 20th century, what you can do there, is to enjoy life as it was back in time, which was very different from the present. It will be all separated into three zones, one is comprising old private houses with thatched roofs, other comprises buildings of high historical value, like the mansion of Korekiyo Takahashi, Prime Minister of Japan, the last but not least third zone, with old shops, a public bathhouse and taverns lining the street.
Here you will be experiencing a glimpse of life of old Tokyo, this open air museum aims to relocate, preserve and exhibit historical buildings of great cultural value, that are sadly impossible to exhibit at their actual places. This exhibition displays historic buildings from diverse regions of Japan, also from different historical periods, there will be amazing buildings reconstructed to show you a part of architectural history, that has been lost in earthquakes and fires, wars and other damages. After this exhibition, you will definitely feel a step closer to Japanese culture.
