Windy city Chicago

Chicago History Museum
Chicago is a good city to write on your list of places to go, there’s a lot of things to do, eat, listen and specially see over there. But you will be amazed when you find out how many museums about so many different and unexpected themes are there.

To find a Chicago History Museum is not a surprise, but I bet you won’t expect to find a Busy Beaver Button Museum, not even a Rock N Roll McDonald’s museum. In the Leather Archives Museum, you can see archives pertaining to sadomasochism, fetishism, leather and alternative sexual practices. The library and the museum contain a collection of books, magazines, films, artefacts and erotic art related to the subject. The Oriental Museum is a world renowned showcase for archaeological objects from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Nubia, Syria and Anatolia.

By the way, Chicago is a host of museums about all cultures around the world, such as the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture, the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, the Irish American Heritage Center, the Polish Museum of America, the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, the Swedish American Museum Center, and the Ukrainian National Museum.

There are also museums for children, like the Chicago Children’s Museum, a place where kids can learn through playing, encouraging them the to create, explore and discover science, math, arts and health. But not only children can play in Chicago. In the Logan Hardware Vintage Arcade Museum anyone can play the whole collection of arcade games for free. Also free is the Money Museum, the place where you will find out how a million dollars in one dollar bill looks like.

But surely you will be more fascinated (or scared) in the International Museum of Surgical Science, a collection of medical artefacts, fine arts and manuscripts about medical science. If you liked that, you’ll probably enjoy the Center of Intuitive and Outsider Art, where they exhibit, publish and collect outsider art, non traditional folk art, visionary art and art brut.

To finish your trip through this crazy city, visiting the Smith Museum of stained Glass Windows could be very pleasant. It’s a permanent exhibition dedicate only for stained glass windows, and most of them are illuminated with artificial lights to highlight the colours and the details. This is a gallery where you can come close to the art without driving anyone crazy. There are many other museums in Chicago to visit, all of them unique and special, and if you are a “museum person”, Chicago is surely a place for you.
