Rome Film Festival

Film Feast
Something exciting is happening in Rome this year. Its the first Cinema Festa Internazionale di Roma, and its set to invade the streets of Rome in October 13-21 this year. The main premise will be the Auditorium Parco della Musica, at a new purpose-built structure, but events will be spread out all over this great city, from Via Veneto to the Piazza del Popolo, Cinecitt to the suburbs of greater Rome. At the Auditorium Parco, the festival will be housed in a new auditorium designed by renowned Italian architect, Renzo Piano.

This new film festival is more than just about the films, but involves the entire city in a dazzling presentation of parallel exhibitions, panel discussions and shows on music, fashion and literature. The festival spans not only the glorious past and present, but also looks towards new directions of the future.

Its also more than just the movies, but also the people: this festival comprises a competition which is judged by a peoples jury, this year led by the famous Italian director, Ettore Scala. The festival aims not only to promote, but to involve a greater scope of the public, in an international festival to equal that of the Venice Film Festival in August. A lofty aim of the festival is to reinvent the actual publics of film festivals, and presents a wide array of programming and sections to achieve this.

The Cinema Festa Internazionale di Roma includes this year 5 main sections:

+ Premiere: Gala evenings showcasing highlight films.

+ Actors Craft: A homage to deserving filmmakers of our time this year the highlight is on Sean Connery.

+ Competition: A selection of 14 unreleased films, launched during the festival and judged by 50 person jury: The jury is chosen from the general public prior to the festival and is led by director Ettore Scala.

+ Extra: A selection of innovative and significant cinematic works.

+ Alice in the City: A parallel festival, with a youthful audience in mind. This is a separate festival for youths, running for five years now and involving over 150 young jurors from Rome for a literature and cinema competition.

The festival is held in collaboration with the New York Tribeca Film Festival, and will host some highlights from Tribecas Spring 2006 festival.

Just another reason to visit Rome later this year!
