Going State-side for the summer? Make sure when you make that flight across the Atlantic that a stop off in New York is on your itinerary. New York is known for many things and the Spectacular city is literally littered with iconic buildings, stores and monuments.

Looking beyond the Statue of Liberty, Broadway and Central Park there is a lot more to New York than impressive structures and yellow taxis. This summer an alternative piece of installation art will be on show from June until August. aptly named “The New York City Waterfalls” will see the erection of numerous waterfalls all along the water front including one at the famous Brooklyn Bridge. The Artist involved in the project has given an interesting statement as to the reasons and the goals behind the creation of these beautiful manmade waterfalls on the website nycwaterfalls.com.

If culinary delights are what you seek then don’t miss the Big Apple Barbeque Block Party that takes place on the 7th and 8th of July. This event, held in Madison Square Park, will give you the opportunity to sample award winning Texan family recipes for only $8 per head. So BBQ enthusiasts (and I think that covers just about every non-vegetarian on the planet!) will get their fill of delicious grub from the most famous BBQ masters of the U.S.. But the fun doesn’t stop there… oh no! Free Bluegrass concerts are the cherry on the cake… Sounds to me like a feast fit for a king!

My last recommendation for a truly alterative NYC visit?… Rent Bicycles for the whole gang you are travelling with and see New York from a whole new perspective! Riding bikes in New York may sound like a crazy idea but there are heaps of organised bike tours and bike rental places all around the city. Going on a bike tour gives you the intimacy of a walking tour but allows you to cover a large amount of area… and believe me, there is a lot to see! Plus it will help shed those extra pounds gained after that monster BBQ session! Happy pedalling!

Enjoy the City that never sleep…
