Halloween in New York

whatch out for the ghouls
Every year a procession of ghouls stroll through Manhattan’s Upper West Side around as well as within St. John of the Divine Cathedral. The parade was originally developed by Ralph Lee, an award winning mask and puppet designer. Lee, a true mastermind has many claims to fame, such as his life-sized Fred Astaire puppet created for Shari Lewis and the two-headed pig beast of Sam Sheppard’s play “Back Bog Beast Bait”. Starting off the Halloween extravaganza is a screening of a classic horror film, typically accompanied by an eerie soundtrack preformed by the Cathedral’s skilled organist, Lon Chaney. Following the film, the costume-clad crowd parades majestically down the center aisle of St. John’s, interacting with all onlookers. This event proves to be a magical experience for adults and children alike.
