Christmas in New York

New York Hostels
Spend a magical Christmas in New York City, where all your dreams can come true!

The city bursts with Christmas cheer for the festive season, and offers many delights for shopping, feasting and activities. From walking past the Bergdorf Goodman window displays and getting some Christmas shopping done, to taking in the Dyker Heights neighborhood Christmas lights in Brooklyn, you won’t be stuck for something to do. Here’s a few ‘must do’ things in NYC over the Christmas period.

If you haven’t already tried ice skating, head to any of the ice rinks that open for the holiday season. Popular rinks are Seaport Ice, Wollman Rink in Central park, and of course The Rockerfeller Centre. Admission ranges from $5 – $14 and skate rental will be about $7 or $8. The Rockerfeller Center will be the busiest during peak times, but they do have lessons available!

Macy’s and Bloomingdales are synonomous with NYC and are a godsend once Christmas hits. With late night opening hours, complimentary gift wrapping and an 11% discount card available for every International shopper, you can’t go wrong getting your retail therapy done here for your friends and family. Make sure you prepare yourself for the Macy’s experience… there’s10 floors to get through!

Once you’ve finished at Macy’s head to Bloomingdales where the ‘Big Brown Bag’ is a souvenir in itself. They also have late night shopping, services to ship home your purchases and a free gift when you spend more than $50. You’ll find all the top brands and designer wear and won’t walk away empty-handed. If you’re looking for jewellery the best place to find it is the legendary Tiffany & Co, and visit Saks Fifth Ave to walk into an array of shop assistants ready and waiting to shower you in a mist of fragrances.

For the most magical shopping experience filled with a few laughs, head along to FAO Schwartz to find every kind of toy you could ever imagine. Remember the larger than life piano that was featured in the film ‘Big’ with Tom Hanks? It’s at FAO Schwartz that you’ll be able to have a go on it yourself and jump out the chopsticks tune. They’ve got complimentary gift wrapping, a personal shopping assistant, should you need one, and more candy than you’d find in Willy Wonkers Chocolate Factory.
