New Delhi Hostels and Hotels
The importance of the country India becoming independant and declaring itself a Republic is celebrated on the 26th January every year. Since 1950 when the first parade took place, thousands of people have crowded on to the streets of New Delhi at 8am in the morning to see the mass of traditional dances and military drills which are exercised to perfection as are the uniforms that are worn perfectly in place.

It was on this date the constitution came into affect, to symbolise when the country had won it’s freedom from the British Raj three years earlier in 1947. It is a huge parade which starts at Raisina Hill and finishes at the historic Red Fort in the old quater of the city. Amongst the many decorated floats representing each state of the country will also be heavily decorated elephants and horses of the cavalry.

The President of India will be in attendance and a flypast from the airforce is the traditional end to the parade. Although the parade begins at 8am, you will need to ensure you are there about an hour earlier in order to get a good view.
