Brazilian rainforest in Germany

Leipzig Youth Hostels
The Panometer: Brazilian rainforest in the middle of Leipzig created by Yadegar Asisi. Central Globetrotter and Hostel Sleepy Lion…Leipzig awakes to a work of art :

The world’s largest 360 degrees panorama with an image area of 3.200 m² ‘AMAZONIEN’ of the Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi opens from 28th March 2009 in the Asisi Panometer in Leipzig and it also pays homage to the second discoverer and physical geographer of the South American continent, Alexander von Humboldt.

The Berlin artist Asisi is responsible for the creative elements and the artistic direction. A Belgian pianist and composer called Eric Babak contributes his music to the ideas of Asisi.

There is pictured a scenery of the Brazilian rainforest on a scale of 1:1. It has a length of 100 m and a height of 30 m. The material of the panorama is polyester, which is printed with the aid of the sublimation process.

It presents a new kind of fascination for the eye of the beholder and it sweeps the audience away into the green biotope near the equator.

The entire panorama project is completed by an accompanying exhibition, where eight departments of wildlife and flora are located. By the same token it pays attention to the water economy and the history of the ancestral continent Gondwanaland. You will also discover a 25 m high simulation of a giant jungle tree, the execution of an enormous Tropical flower, the model of a mosquito and a 20m high installation with more than 100 insect boxes.
