Futurism in Rome

50 events over the coming months
Futurism was an international art movement which started in Italy 1909 by the Italian writer Filippo Tommaso Marinetti with an article in a French newspaper. It was a reaction to Romanticism and celebrates modernity and technology and art was produced in all mediums from painting to theatre. The Futurists adored speed, aggression, noise, machines and pollution and embraced the modern world.

Coming up in Rome is the celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the movement. From the 20th February to 20th May, Rome becomes Futuroma! The celebration opens with a fantastic lightshow in the Futurist style in Piazza Venezia and Piazza del Popolo. There is also an excellent exhibition at the Scuderie del Quirinale where you can constrast the style of Futurism and Cubism against that of Russian Cubism, British Vorticism and American Synchromism
