This year in August, Berlin will host the biennial IAAF World Championships in Athletics event and tournament. There are 500,000 visitors and spectators expected to attend this year at the Olympiastadion (Olympic Stadium), with even more people lining the streets outside and in the city center for a look at the marathon and various walking events.The championships began in 1983 in Helsinki, Finland and were originally held every four years. The event became biennial in 1991 and ever since has been incredibly popular and well-liked, meeting every few years in various world cities. After being held in Berlin this year, it will move to Daegu in South Korea in 2011 and then to Moscow in 2013.
