Munich’s Carnival Season in January

There are so many festivals and events going on in Munich. The famous Christmas market – Christkindlsmarkets, one of the biggest world’s beer festival – Octoberfest and much more. January is the month that has to be celebrated as well, as Fasching Carnival is making its way to town. Festival is bringing a colorful range of events: from fancy-dress parties to extravagant dances events where guests dress in their finest outfits.

Fasching Carnival has deepen its roots in the history. Some centuries ago, during Fasching the lower classes were allowed to wear costumes and masks and to mimic aristocracy and heads of government without fear of retribution for mockery. For this reason the festival is locally known as the ‘season of fools’. Although, it is celebrated in various regions, the famous events are held in the capital of Bavaria – Munich.

Munich’s carnival season officially begins on the 7th of January and peaks in the last days of February. Munich’s two-month long carnival season is giving you an opportunity to explore hundreds of parties and events (including the classic “Black and White Ball”), to taste traditional food and drinks, as well as to experience the old traditions and the spirit of the historical festival. Go for it and have a blast.

The ubiquitous food of Munich Carnival is donuts. Do not be surprised to see them piled high in the bakers and be offered every day. From vanilla to chocolate; for every age and every taste. So, put on your Mask and Celebrate!
