The beautiful Venice keep inviting visitors from all over the planet, letting discover its history and see the amazing land of waters. Its completely unique and stunning, founded more than 1,500 years ago on 117 different islands. The historic center is divided into six quarters: Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, San Marco, San Polo and Santa Croce. Venice is linked by more than 150 canals and 400 bridges, making it so special.

Many festivals and events surprise the tourists during the year…one of most religious in Venice is the festival of La Salute, one of the least tourist driven affairs. For the secound time in 50years, plague took its hold on Venice.

During 1630-1631 Venice citizens died from the plague, its was shocking that the city lost one third of their citizens.The Doge called upon the Virgin Mary to rid them of the curse. It’s just another reminder of a plague that decimated Venice’s population .All those ones who were alive and able to make the journey, pilgrimage to her church took place.

Patrons still attend her church nowadays to ask for good health. After the terrible times in Venice, the survivers built the church of the Madonna della Salute in the Dorsoduro sestiere, where the feast day is commemorated by the celebrants, who are thanking Madonna for the health at the church’s altar.
