World Design Capital

Helsinki, field of design
2012 is a very special year for Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Why? It’s the World Design Capital this year! This recognizes the efforts made by Helsinki in the field of design, as well
as boosting promotion for the city, which has a fine selection of buildings and structures which make walking around the city itself a pleasant experience.

Sports are also high on the agenda here, host to the 1952 Olympics and numerous World Athletics Championships as well as football, ice-hockey and skating proving popular amongst locals. The Finnish people are well-known for their pale skin, blonde hair but warm hearts, thus making anyone who visits to feel welcome.

It is also home to the National Museum of Finland, a romantic neomedieval castle and the Helsinki City Museum, which chronicles the city’s 500 year history. This is one place which has something on offer for everyone.
