Fool’s Day

Put things in perspective with humor
Nowadays would be hard enough to find an honest person, but once you have a special day to make your lies open for public, that could be fun. No pretending, lie as much as you can, well, mostly as a joke, but still, for all the pinocchios of the world, 1st of April, that your day to celebrate.

Who created The Fool’s Day…well, the answer is uncertain, there’s something to do with the calendar change or the official Spring day, dating back in 1582 when Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar for the New Year, to replace the Julian Calendar. The date was shifted to the 1st of January, even if many people in the world, refused to accept the new date and continued to celebrate the New Year’s in the April. So other people started to make fun of those who refused to change the date, the traditionalists, they sent them them on Fool’s errands, so that’s how the practise of Fool’s day started to spread all over.

Another explanation is even better, it was provided by Joseph Boskin, a professor at the Boston’s University, he said that back in Roman Emperor days being a fool was really being a wise man, it was actually a serious day that time, when a group of court jesters and fools told the Roman emperor that they could do a better job of running the empire. Constantine then amused to allow a jester Kugel to be a King just for a day, Kugel made this annual day, calling absurdity on that day, it was the role of jesters to put things in perspective with humor.

Widely known as a Fool’s day in most of Europe, celebrated more between kids, telling lies and making fun of each other. French would stick a fish drawing on your back, letting you walk around all day with a fish on your back. A fool is someone who doesn’t understand what is happening, that what vocabulary tells, so, the point is to fool everyone on this day, for example, put a salt instead of sugar in someone’s tea or coffee, or change the time on another person’s alarm clock so that person would unknowingly wake up earlier or later than planned.

After you have played the trick, you say “April Fool” it not supposed to cause any harm to anyone, don’t be cruel, just make sure both of you have fun! My best Fool’s Day joke as a child was when my mom told me that my schools has been set on fire, for few minutes i was delighted, until i learned the ugly reality 🙂
