Goreme, open air museum
Turkey is one of the best place on earth , with a centuries rich history and wisdom, Istanbul is the hot spot, the tiny Goreme town is undeservedly left in the shadow. It’s so small , that you should just walk through, moonscape valley, surrounded by golden hills, this village is worth more than you could imagine. Narrow streets will guide you to everything that’s needed, bright hotels, cozy restaurants and many touristic monuments, Goreme is an open air museum, worth visiting, give it more than just one day.On every corner you will see a tiny rock cut church reminding of Byzantine life, stunning settings and easygoing allure, that’s the real charm of Goreme. You will witness the rock sites of Cappadocia, which is a spectacular landscape, entirely sculpted by erosion. It contains a unique evidence of Byzantine art and rock-hewn sanctuaries. You will be left breathless with some evidence from traditional human life back in 4th century, villages and underground towns…an open air museum…
Don’t think it’s all mother nature’s job, the pieces of Goreme valley’s art has a human’s touch, they began carving an incredible chamber and tunnel complex into the soft rock, thousands of years ago, so just imagine the value of this masterpiece. Volcano has washed off this place , leaving only ashes behind, which with years turned into a soft rock, tuff, of course, the shape was wind’s and water’s magical touch…becoming a beautiful plateau. Those amazing creatures are now 40 meters high touching the sky, but to bring it to its perfection, well, human worked that one out. Human-created caves have become the wonderland that it’s seen now, living quarters, storehouses and daily life tunnel complexes, it’s different world, a result of many centuries hard work of human and nature.
Goreme is fulfilled with a rich history, multicultural past and incredible threats of World Heritage, this beautiful piece of mother nature has been damaged and also modernized by humans, which makes it even more special. Remember that Goerme has survived another millennium and let’s it will keep it up that way, be brave and curious enough to discover it.
