Zambia is a developing country in southern Africa with a representative government. Between one and two milion years ago early humans inhabited Zambia. From 1953 to 1964, Northern Rhodesia was federated with Southern Rhodesia calle Zimbabwe nowadays and Nyasaland ,Malawi, in the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. On Oct. 24, 1964, Northern Rhodesia became the independent nation of Zambia.

Economic and cultural activity flourished in this resource rich environment for centuries prior to the European exploitation. It is bordered by Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Namibia.

In the late 1800’s, the country of Zambia was divided into two entities: North-Western Rhodesia, controlled by the British South Africa Company and North-Eastern Rhodesia. The two units were merged and formed Northern Rhodesia back in 1911. After 12 years the British government took control. After many years of struggle with the British, independence was secured in 1964, and the name was officially changed to Zambia.

English is the official language of the country, but Bemba is most predominately used and thats not it yet, more than 70 other languages are spoken, like Kaonda, Lozi, Lunda, Luvale, Nyanja, and Tonga. The country is composed of nine provinces, and the majority of the population lives in rural areas. Most people are involved in agriculture to provide family food – corn, rice, peanuts, vegetables, cotton, and coffee.

Today Zambia is made up almost entirely of Bantu-speaking peoples. It has become economically speaking an up and coming country in Southern Africa. Vast lakes, rich wetlands and breathtaking African sunsets contribute to Zambia’s scenic splendor. Safaris in Zambia are excellent, the only negative side is the rainy season. It has many National Parks.

The land is blessed with 17 waterfalls, one of the most famous Victoria Falls, all the beautiful nature attracts many tourists and thrill seekers alike. If you like adrenaline, river rafting, canoeing safaris, river surfing and tiger fishing, the perfect place for you is Zambia and its wild Zambezi River.

Its terrain consists of a high plateau with hills and mountains, small trees, grassy plains, and marshland. The climate is tropical, with some areas experiencing a six-month rainy season.
