Panneken Pis
The crossroad between cultures, Belgium may be considered the capital of European Union. It’s a city with split personality, having the Germanic and the Romantic, the French and Flemish, and opposite vibes and arts. The best place to start your trip in Brussels with style in the unmistakable symbol of Belgium and its capital: the Atomium. Build for the 58’s World Exibition, this building has the shape of the model of an iron crystal, but enlarged 165 billion times. Isn’t it reason enough to go-Brussels? The Atomium is house for an exposition about its own history, and other temporary exhibitions. In the uppersphere, a restaurant and a magnificent view of the capital. Very close to that is the Mini-Europe, where you can have a glimpse of the whole Europe in a few steps, such as the Big Ben, the gondolas of Venice, and the best the Old Continent has to offer.
A very good time you can have in Oceade, a waterpark with amazing high speed slides, water playgrounds, interactive videogames, jacuzzis, wavepools, exterior and interior saunas, ice baths and solariums… The entrance, for adults, is 17.80€. In Brussels you can also visit one of the biggest collections of musical instruments in the Musical Instruments Museum, having nearly 1200 displayed instruments, antique and contemporary, with technological tools as interactive terminals and sound spaces. The museum has also special facilities for visual and auditive disability, allowing them to touch, play, feel the vibrations in a special place, the Jardin d’Orphee.
Instructing and interesting may be a visit at the Parlamentarium, the European Parliament’s Visitor Centre, where you can make a virtual trip through Europe to visit each Member State, videos with messages of the members of the Parliament, and a 360 degrees surround screen with the projection of the parliamentary chamber. The admission is free and available in 23 languages.
As you started your visit with style, let’s finish it with style! The Panneken-Pis is a legendary figure, a bronze statuette fountain of a little boy pissing, who has been given many costumes and different decorations since 1696. He has been kidnapped a couple of times and found broken, being remade and put back to its place, on the fountain. Interesting, funny, surprising and alternative is Brussels, for sure it deserves your visit!
