Parties and feasts are held in giant igloos after dark, but the snow sculpting contest is the main event.

Located north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, Kiruna has a magical atmosphere and is a great place to learn more about the indigenous Sami people.
Don’t forget to take a moose safari, snowmobile rides and carve you own ice sculpture under Northern Lights! Also check out the famous Icehotel venue, completely made of ice and snow from inside and outside. This unique form of accommodation is rebuilt every winter by artists from all over the world.
In addition to the unique rooms made from snow and ice, there is also warm and cosy accommodation, good food, and an array of different activities.

The large parts of Kiruna centre will be relocated in the coming thirty years, so grab the chance to visit the central areas before it is too late! Kiruna was once the largest town in the world in terms of area, though the centre of Kiruna is smaller and very easy to discover!
