Rio di Janeiro is one of the top destinations in Latin America, full of events and festivals, no matter which month of year are we…during October there is the Festival do Rio going on, which attracts professionals and film buffs from all over the planet. The festival brings the best cinema in the town, attracting more than 180.000 people, you will see screenings and seminars at venues across Rio. It has already started at 27th September and will last until 11th October, so if you are in Brazil, you can still make it.

This year it will be Rio’s 14th edition, they will play more than 400 films that will show the best Brazilian cinema, and also offer the brightest film-makers from over sixty different countries. Rio International Film Festival is the brightest in Latin America and let Brazil truly shine, showing the best they have, spread across 30 different cinemas and screens in all corners of the city.

There will be some highlights like Spike Lee’s Red Hook Summer, also some famous selection from world’s biggest film festivals like Cannes, Sundance and Berlin. The film directors will be fighting for a very attractive prize, with an animated movie competing for the first time in the form of Luiz Bolognesi’s Uma historia de som e furia. Four of directors will receive some honorary mentions and retrospectives, Alberto Cavalcanti, John Carpenter, Manoel de Oliveira and Joao Pedro Rodrigues. It’s a festival for all the cinema lovers, there will be also a piece from Alfred Hitchcock’s restored 1925, The Pleasure Garden.
